AkiDwA membership is open to all who are in agreement with its vision, mission and values, as specified at the end of this page. Members are a vital part of our organisation and AkiDwA acknowledges and greatly appreciates members’ support.
 
AkiDwA has two types of membership:
Full Members (groups)
Associate Members (individuals or groups who do not meet the criteria to be a Full Member) 

 
FULL MEMBER:
To become a Full Member of AkiDwA, you must belong to one of the following:
  • A women’s group
  • An organization, where women form majority of membership
  • In existence for six months
  • Have a minimum of 7 individual members
ASSOCIATE MEMBER:
Associate membership is open to all individuals and groups who do not meet the criteria above but wish to support the mission and work of AkiDwA. 

 
Membership fees:
Membership fees are payable per year
Full membership: €35
Associate membership: Employed €15 Unemployed €10 Asylum seeker €5 

 
Voting:
Each Full Member organisation/group shall be entitled to one vote at AkiDwA’s General Assembly meetings.

  • Profile your events on the AkiDwA website

  • Attend and participate at AkiDwA events and network with other women’s groups throughout Ireland
  • Participate in our campaigns and input into our policy work and research
  • Be the first to know and participate in AkiDwA’s events including seminars, conferences, workshops etc.
  • Access valuable links
  • Be referred to other relevant organizations
  • Participate and have a say in AkiDwA’s annual networking event for professionals ‘Brain Gain’
  • Advertise your events on our website and e- newsletter – Free!
  • Gain preference in availing of AkiDwA’s employment programme ‘Door to Work’
  • Receive free information and referral
  • Avail of social networking, events, talent shows, educational initiatives and training

Fill in the relevant application form; you can download these below.  You can send the form together with cheque (the amount should correspond with the applicable membership fee) by post or drop in to our offices in Dublin 1.

AKIDWA BACKGROUND, VISION, MISSION AND VALUES
Established in 2001 AkiDwA (Swahili for sisterhood) is a national network of migrant women living in Ireland.
AkiDwA Vision is a just society where there is equal opportunity and equal access to resources in all aspects of society: social, cultural, economic, civic and political.
AkiDwA Mission is to promote equality and justice for migrant women living in Ireland.
AkiDwA’s values are:
Respect for People’s Dignity. We believe in a non-judgemental approach, which respects the dignity of all the people we engage with, staff, volunteers, members, partners and the general public.
Integrity and Honesty. We believe that all our work should be undertaken with integrity, openness, honesty and professionalism.
Openness to Learning. We believe in open mindedness and curiosity and will continue to open our organisation to learning while keeping our passion and enthusiasm for the work.
Empowerment. We believe our work should empower people, assisting them to move from dependency to independence.
Solidarity and Partnership. We believe in a partnership approach which facilitates solidarity between people, between migrant communities and between Irish and migrant communities.
Accountability and Transparency. We believe we should be responsible to each other and to the people and organisations with whom we engage.
Equality and Justice. We believe that there can be an equal and just society and all our work will be underpinned by the promotion of justice and equality for migrant women in the Irish society.
Participation. We believe in the principle of participation.
