From Remembrance to Action
Every woman deserves to live in safety, with dignity, and without fear.
On 9 July, AkiDwA officially launched the Migrant Women's Safety Charter in honour of Masoumeh Sohrabi and all migrant women in Ireland who have experienced violence. The Charter is more than a statement of intent; it is a collective commitment to building a safer, more inclusive Ireland where every migrant woman can access protection, support, and justice without barriers.
The Charter calls on government, public bodies, service
providers, community organisations, and individuals to champion five core
principles:
🔹 Safety without barriers
🔹
Equal access to support and protection
🔹
Prevention through inclusion
🔹
Shared community responsibility
🔹
Accountability and meaningful action
We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us for the launch and contributed to this important conversation. Your presence and commitment reaffirm our shared responsibility to create communities where every woman feels safe, valued, and heard.
A special thank you to Professor Roja Fazaeli of the University of Galway for graciously hosting the event, and to Professor Niamh Reilly of the University of Galway for delivering a thought-provoking keynote that reinforced the importance of collective action in advancing the rights and safety of migrant women.
The Charter remains open for endorsement, and we invite organisations, policymakers, service providers, community groups, and members of the public to stand with us in advancing the safety, dignity, and rights of migrant women across Ireland.
Together, we can transform remembrance into lasting
action.
